Vegfinans, one of Norway’s largest toll chargers in terms of road project financing, has announced a major expansion of its tolling infrastructure with the deployment of a new multi-lane free-flow (MLFF) tolling system across six counties in southeastern Norway.

The project, part of a four-year framework contract valued at approximately €7.5m, will include both upgrades to existing tolling infrastructure and the installation of new roadside systems along previously untolled roads.

The tolling systems will be rolled out across Akershus, Buskerud, Innlandet, Telemark, Vestfold and Østfold, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of toll collection in both urban and highway environments.

By modernising its toll network, Vegfinans aims to ensure accurate and secure revenue collection while supporting sustainable and efficient transportation across the region.

Commenting on the expansion, Dan Isak Kveta, operations manager at Vegfinans, said: We are confident that our new system will deliver the quality and reliability needed to strengthen our goal of accurate and secure toll collection.”

The initiative aligns with Norway’s commitment to advanced road pricing systems that reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and integrate environmentally conscious technologies.

The selected system scored highly on climate impact and operational quality during the tendering process, highlighting a strong emphasis on sustainability.

This includes the use of eco-friendly materials, optimised maintenance practices and enhanced recycling of hardware components.
