Toll4Europe and Telepass sign EETS agreements with Dutch authority ahead of 2026 truck toll launch

Toll4Europe and Telepass sign EETS agreements with Dutch authority ahead of 2026 truck toll launch
Toll4Europe and Telepass have become the first European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) providers to sign agreements with the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW), marking a major step toward the rollout of the country’s new distance-based truck tolling system, which is set to go live in mid-2026.

The forthcoming toll will apply to trucks over 3.5 tonnes travelling on Dutch motorways and selected regional roads.

Charges will vary based on a vehicle’s emission class, with lower rates for cleaner trucks. All eligible vehicles will require an on-board unit to ensure compliance with the system.

Toll4Europe said the agreement reinforces its commitment to supporting sustainable and efficient mobility across Europe.

Telepass has now entered the technical certification phase, which will allow it to offer EETS-compliant services in the Netherlands upon the system’s launch.

“The signing of these agreements marks a significant milestone in our preparations for the new tolling system,” said Jan Strijk, director of tolling at RDW.

“We are pleased to introduce Telepass and Toll4Europe as the first two providers to enter the approval process. Both companies have strong reputations and bring valuable expertise to this important project.”

Francesco Maria Cenci, head of Italy & EU tolling at Telepass, said the move expands the company’s tolling network to 19 countries and strengthens its position as one of Europe’s leading toll payment operator for heavy vehicles.
