)
The system will replace a pilot software introduced in 2019, providing improved throughput, robustness and error handling.
The contract also includes an operations component, which Q-Free will deliver as a service.
According to Ola Martin Lykkja, Q-Free’s project manager for Road User Charging (RUC) 2.0, the project represents a step toward wider implementation of cooperative intelligent transportation systems (C-ITS).
“This project highlights NPRA’s adoption of C-ITS technology and transition from research to full-scale deployment,” Lykkja said.
Q-Free has previously delivered large-scale ITS projects, including a statewide advanced traffic management system in the USA in 2021.
While financial details of the NPRA contract have not been disclosed, the project aligns with Norway’s ongoing efforts to modernise road infrastructure through intelligent mobility solutions.
